Thomas Tuchel Questions Home Crowd Support Despite Comfortable Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel shared his sadness that the Three Lions team did not get more backing from the home fans during their decisive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his team showcase their good form, with goals from Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the initial stages settling the contest. However, he was not content with the energy at the national stadium.
“We had one and a half sessions to prepare against a well-trained team and we did very well,” Tuchel commented. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the additional ones. It was quiet. There was no any energy from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you deliver in the first quarter? We didn’t let them escape. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s disappointing because the team deserved greater backing today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a greater backing in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to recharge, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Performance
Apart from risking a fight with fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by excluding Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the move was backed up by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and netting his first international goal.
“He is what he is,” the head coach noted. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who host Belgium in a important World Cup qualifier on next week, take lessons from their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” the manager stated. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with inspiration.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was taken off at half-time after clattering into a goalpost and will be a doubt when England play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
