Every sports leader often states leading a global tour isn't just a nine-to-five job.

Recently named Women's Tennis Association (WTA) president Valerie Camillo understands dedicated effort from past positions - including one on the commercial board of the entertainment company which runs American country music superstar Dolly Parton's entertainment venues.

In addition to her input regarding Parton's business interests, Camillo takes over the top of women's tennis armed with deep knowledge in sports and media, with past roles in senior leadership posts at the world's premier basketball league, major league hockey and professional baseball.

Camillo starts her leadership position at the WTA this November, replacing the long-serving Steve Simon, after his lengthy leadership is ending as he steps down.

When Camillo begins her new role later this month, she takes over facing significant matters faced by her predecessor.

Her primary objective requires guaranteeing the WTA and its leading stars - featuring Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek - obtain meaningful share of the expanding market.

"We have top competitors internationally and we are in an enviable position in women's sports," Camillo told.

"Throughout female athletics, investment, audiences and media engagement are increasing exponentially.

"Typically obstacles for women's competitions requires creating visibility, attracting fans and eyeballs and attention," added Camillo.

"The WTA faces distinct circumstances - having established legacy, with substantial heritage, a billion viewers globally, and including highly visible, highest-paid competitors in the world."
