Mario's Galactic Adventure Teaser Arrives, Revealing Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo alongside Illumination released the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Space-Faring Quest Drawing from Iconic Releases
In the vein of the games from the Wii period that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who seemingly wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The film will see the return of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Mario's Major Moment
The new Mario movie is planned to debut close to the four-decade milestone of the original Super Mario Bros. game. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his friends.
The company has a set of three fresh titles publicly declared for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
