Magic: The Gathering Reprints 4 Essential Commander Cards with Play-Doh Artwork

Magic: The Gathering has announced its yearly collaboration with Extra Life, a fundraising program supporting children's hospitals. This year's initiative includes a new Secret Lair drop titled Squishful Thinking, which presents four highly sought-after Commander format cards with charming art based on the beloved Play-Doh modeling compound.

Meet the Featured Cards

Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer debuted in a Dominaria United Commander and is frequently used in land-based and ramp strategies due to its ability to generate Badger tokens. Polyraptor was first introduced in the prehistoric set Rivals of Ixalan and is played not only in tribal decks but also in combo strategies that take advantage of its copying ability. Wurmcoil Engine and Academy Manufactor are both common in Commander decks—the first for being a classic colorless value creature, and the latter for its synergy capabilities.

Pricing and Charity Support

None of these cards are overly costly (assuming you no longer gasp at moderately priced singles), but these are welcome reprints even for those uninterested in the colorful art. Each card features the ability to produce tokens, honoring the creativity that Play-Doh has encouraged in generations of young fans. The company will additionally back the charity through a charity livestream on Twitch on November 8, running from morning to 10:30 p.m. PT.

Release Details and Pricing

The Squishful Thinking Secret Lair drop will be offered online from Sept. 29 to November 9 and will be produced based on orders—a welcome change from recent limited printings. Additionally, limited quantities will be available at the MagicCon event merchandise booth from Sept. 26–28. The standard set is listed at $39.99, and the foil version at $49.99. Half of the purchase price will go to Extra Life and Seattle Children's Hospital.
