Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump administration, concerned it could worsen unhelpful debate and increase separation across the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Lawrence
In a recent interview, Lawrence reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing Republican and Democratic presidential nominees in past elections. Raised by Republican parents in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and explaining she realized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was opposing her own rights as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she stated that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s a strong contender and I know that she will take all necessary steps to defend abortion access.”
Celebrity Views
Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a returning figure, but the minimal impact stars have over the voting intentions was emphasized by the outcome.
“Another four years seems distinct,” said she regarding Trump’s presidency. “Because he stated his intentions. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
The actor is discussing her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a recent parent who faces challenges with her emotional state in a remote area. During a media event for the project in the film festival, Lawrence commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by stating that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
The actor attempted to refocus anger about the conflict to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she remarked, seen by observers as a reference to the recent commitment signed by numerous arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her performance in Die, My Love. Even though Ramsay has denied the story being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, the actress shared that she connected with elements of her role’s experience after the delivery of her new baby, shortly after filming concluded.
“It was fear about my child,” she explained, “just picturing every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I began using a drug called that medicine and I used it for a short period and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.
“It feels nice,” she said, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
