Google to Invest $15bn for Constructing Artificial Intelligence Data Center in the Indian Subcontinent

Computing Infrastructure
The Nation is a key destination for data centers due to its inexpensive data services and quickly expanding internet user base.

The parent firm of Google the Alphabet conglomerate plans to commit $15bn to build an AI data hub in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The infrastructure, to be established in the harbor town of Visakhapatnam, is set to become a component of Google's international system of AI centers located in 12 countries.

"It stands as the greatest AI facility that we are going to be investing in worldwide, excluding the US," the CEO of Google Cloud announced at an event in capital Delhi on Tuesday, noting that the investment will be spread throughout the next half-decade.

This declaration arrives during a period American President Donald Trump has been urging American companies to focus on investments within the country.

India's Growing Role in AI Infrastructure

India has risen as a major hub for artificial intelligence facilities. India's affordable data pricing and quickly expanding online population have made it a hub for cloud and AI expansion for tech giants.

"The facility will bring our pioneering tech solutions to businesses and consumers in the nation, speeding up artificial intelligence advancement and stimulating expansion nationwide," said Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.

Project Details

An official contract to complete the project will be signed this Tuesday, local government officials confirmed.

"It is a major step forward for our state's digital future, technological innovation, and global standing," stated the minister for technology Minister Nara Lokesh.

The venture will integrate AI and cloud systems with renewable energy systems and an broader fiber-optic system.

The State's Data Hub Strategy

The venture forms part of the local administration's strategy to create 6 gigawatts of computing facility capacity by 2029.

Computing facilities are physical facilities that accommodate the networking and computing devices that companies use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.

They contain servers, storage systems and network equipment like routers and firewalls, along with the essential electricity and temperature control systems to function properly.

Funding Benefits

Across Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been providing discounted land and energy to attract international investors.

Market Development

The nation's data center sector has expanded quickly in the recent half-decade, exceeding the 1GW capability milestone in 2024 and approximately tripling its capability from 2019.
